Dental bonding is a procedure where a tooth is prepared removing any damaged or stained areas. A tooth-colored composite material is matched to your existing tooth shade and shaped to restore your tooth back to its healthy appearance. A dental bonding is generally recommended for repairs that are smaller in nature. They are generally less invasive and more economic.
Veneers are thin pieces of ceramic that are shell-like that cover your existing tooth structure. Veneers are an excellent way to reshape and redesign the shape of your smile. In placing veneers, you are able to fix the look of crooked teeth, misshapen teeth, spacing, staining, chips and cracks, and most aesthetic malformations.
The process of receiving veneers is similar to the process of a crown and will take two separate appointments. The first appointment is the preparation of the teeth for your new veneers. Teeth are carefully prepared to allow for the thickness of the veneer. An impression is then taken and sent to the laboratory where they will design your new porcelain veneers. A temporary veneer will be fabricated and temporarily placed until your new veneers come back from the lab in about 14 days. At the second appointment, the temporary veneers are removed and teeth are cleaned and prepared for the final product. The veneers are then bonded in place. Just like any restoration, proper home care will aid in the life of the restoration.
